Giglancer (GiG)

Giglancer.uz is Uzbekistan's first dedicated freelance marketplace — a two-sided platform connecting verified buyers with trusted local talent across design, development, marketing, video, writing, music, business, finance, AI services, engineering, and more.

Launched to close the structural gap between Uzbekistan's growing digital workforce and the businesses that need them, GiG operates as the country's primary on-demand talent layer — replacing scattered Telegram channels, informal referrals, and unreliable cross-border platforms with a localized, regulated, and escrow-secured ecosystem.

To build a marketplace capable of serving an entire national economy, GiG needed more than a website. They needed a long-term technology operator. WellsGroup was engaged to architect, build, and operate the platform end-to-end — engineering a system that could scale with Uzbekistan's gig economy as it matures.

Business Context & Challenges

GiG's challenge wasn't just to launch a marketplace — it was to make freelance work in Uzbekistan trustworthy, accessible, and operationally viable at scale.

Before WellsGroup's involvement, the project faced five core constraints:

01

Fragmented local market

Freelance activity was scattered across informal Telegram groups, social media DMs, and global platforms that didn't speak the local market's languages, payment rails, or cultural norms.

02

No trusted payment layer

There was no marketplace-grade escrow infrastructure tied to Uzbekistan's domestic banking system, which left both buyers and freelancers exposed to disputes and non-payment.

03

Trilingual complexity

A real local platform had to operate fluently in Russian, English, and Uzbek — across UI, search, categories, and content — not as a translation layer bolted onto an English product.

04

Deep service taxonomy

Serving a real talent economy required hundreds of granular service sub-categories with proper hierarchy, search, and filtering — not a flat list of generic categories.

05

No platform-grade tooling

Buyers and freelancers needed dispute resolution, gig publishing workflows, analytics, premium tiers, and AI-assisted productivity — none of which existed in the local market.

GiG's leadership recognized that competing with global platforms and informal channels would require a system built specifically for Uzbekistan — engineered with the same operational depth as the marketplaces it would eventually replace.

WellsGroup's Approach

WellsGroup applied its systems-first development model, treating GiG's marketplace as long-term operational infrastructure rather than a one-off launch project.

The build began with a detailed discovery and market-mapping phase, during which WellsGroup's team worked directly with GiG's leadership to scope the platform across three dimensions simultaneously: marketplace mechanics, localization depth, and payment infrastructure. The technology stack was selected for long-term maintainability — Laravel (PHP) was chosen as the backend framework for its proven scalability in marketplace and SaaS systems, paired with a structured relational database, full localization, and an integrated AI assistant layer for both buyers and freelancers.

Core principles guiding the approach:

01

Marketplace-grade reliability

Escrow, dispute handling, and transaction flows engineered to operate without intervention at scale.

02

Localization as foundation

Russian, English, and Uzbek built into the core architecture — not added as a translation layer post-launch.

03

AI-augmented productivity

An integrated AI assistant for searching data, structuring requests, writing briefs, and analyzing results — embedded into the user workflow.

04

Long-term operability

A modular Laravel codebase that GiG can evolve with new categories, features, and regional expansion without rebuilding the platform.

By aligning the technical architecture with how a marketplace actually operates day-to-day, WellsGroup built a platform that grows alongside GiG's ambitions — not one that needs to be replaced as the business scales.

Solution Design & Implementation

The platform was delivered as a unified digital ecosystem combining a public marketplace, backend management systems, payment infrastructure, and an integrated AI layer.
